Bad Bellingen in the Markgräflerland
Where Bad Bellingen
stands today, was more than 200 years ago a single Alemannic farm. This farm
became later a small settlement and was named Bellikon. During the roman
invasion the culture of wine was introduced from this time the cultivation of
grapes brought main income together with other agriculture and fishing. Finally
the remote, laid back village of Bellingen turned into Bad Bellingen. On the 28th November 1956, during drilling for suspected oil, Bellingen received a big surprise.
Instead of the expected oil, another costly element shot out of the ground: hot
thermal mineral water: the first of the three thermal sources was found.

After these simple beginnings, bathing in a
wooden tub, the thermal spa resort „balinea“ of today with a state of the art
medical infrastructure was established. And the resort Bad Bellingen developed
into a friendly, world open and well-known health destination in the triangle
of France, Switzerland and Germany. Bad Bellingen today has 3.850
inhabitants.
