Wine of Markgräflerland - a child of the sun
Typical wine of the
region around Bad Bellingen are Gutedel, Müller Thurgau, Pinot Blanc, Pinot
Gris et Pinot Noire, Nobling, Riesling und Gewürztraminer and Rosé. Most
popular with 70 % of the harvest is Gutedel, a grape species, originating from Egypt. In 1870 the duke Markgraf Karl-Friedrich von Baden brought those
grapes from Lake
Geneva to the region. June
2000 Markgräflerland and Switzerland posted a sign as the most important Gutedel growing regions and
celebrated 5.000 years of the Gutedel species.

traditional grape harvest
In Bad Bellingen wine was cultivated
as early as the middelages. About 1150 the monastery of Muri came up with the
eldest known German grape act (the original copy can been seen in our Oberrheinischen Bäder- Museum). In the act, farmers were allowed
to keep one sixth of the grape juice.
Some of our bed and breakfast pensions will give you the opportunity to
share the unique experience of the traditional grape harvest.
